B i o g r a p h y

Thomas Chabalier is a French composer and vibraphone player born in Antibes, France. After studying percussion in Nice, France, Thomas completed a Bachelor of Arts in Musicology at the University Paris La Sorbonne and a Master of Arts in Jazz Performance from the Paris National Conservatoire . In 2015, Thomas moved to the United States, where he now holds a second Master of Arts degree in Film Scoring Composition from Columbia College of Chicago. During his studies, Thomas also participated in several exchange programs at the Royal Conservatory of Stockholm and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor

 

While performing as a jazz player and composing for various ensembles, Thomas started scoring movies, trailers, and advertisements in France, Germany, and the United States. One of his early films, "The Wheel of Emotions,” was selected at the Cannes Film Festival in the Cinefundation program in 2015.

 

In 2016, Thomas was awarded 1st prize at the International Red Bull Media Portfolio Film Scoring Competition for his hybrid composition, melding electronics with strings and voices. A few months later, his orchestral score for an animated movie called "The Little Thing” won the Film Score Award at the European Talent Competition in SoundTrack Cologne.

 

Recently, Thomas composed the music for several advertisements for Disney, Lancôme, which are featured worldwide. He has also written the trailer soundtrack of a multi-awarded feature film called “A Prayer Before Dawn.” Additionally, he has written music for professional orchestras (WDR FunkhausOrchester, the Paris Colonne Orchestra, the Conservatoire Graduates Orchestra) and various jazz ensembles.
